Internet Explorer 8 Overview

The evolution of the internet has introduced new ways to access the information people care about most—whether it is from interactive webpages, rich media videos, user-generated content or powerful search engines. Internet Explorer 8 seamlessly delivers all of the experiences available from the web, and helps people browse faster and easier than ever before. Microsoft listened to internet users and developed new platform features that help reduce the steps needed to reach interesting and timely information or services, while helping to protect their privacy and defend their PCs and confidential information against security threats.

CSS 2.1 Support
The Internet Explorer 8 Standards mode layout engine was built with the CSS 2.1 specification in hand and full compliance in mind.

Native JSON
The JScript engine that ships with Internet Explorer 8 implements the ECMAScript 3.1 JSON proposal.

Selectors
Do you wish there was a better way to quickly find and work with tags on a page? Ever needed to change the status of all elements at once? Look no further than Internet Explorer 8’s new Selectors API.

AJAX Navigation
Currently, on an AJAX heavy page the Address bar is not updated with user navigation nor is there a way to update it. Subsequently, the browsing history isn’t updated either. AJAX Navigations change this behavior by enabling users to navigate back and forth without leaving the AJAX application.
DOM Storage

Specified in the W3C’s HTML 5 Draft, DOM Storage objects provide a much simpler global and session storage model for structured data on the client side.

JavaScript Profiling
The new JScript Profiler in Developer Tools provides critical JScript related performance data to a web developer helping to identify and fix performance related issues.

Increased Connection Limit
With the large scale end user access to broadband, many websites are adding rich content or AJAX applications to their sites to improve the user experience. Internet Explorer 8 is designed with that in mind – increasing the number of default connections to help users take advantage of their larger bandwidth connections.
